Youth Volunteer Program

Peninsula Community Health Services proudly offers a Youth Volunteer Program open to all high school students ages fourteen and up who are interested in learning about careers in health care. We offer three levels of participation in the program:

Level 1: Passport Series: Around the World of PCHS (4 Hours)

At the first level, participants can tour PCHS facilities and learn about the world of careers in health care, including some positions you might not have known existed! Participants will take a guided tour and hear from a variety of professionals. Lunch and a free T-shirt will be provided! The following disciplines will be covered as part of the Passport Series:

  • Medical
  • Dental
  • Finance
  • Legal and Healthcare Administration
  • Human Resources
  • Behavioral Health
  • Information Systems/Cybersecurity
  • Operational Support

Level 2: Career Planning and Job Shadowing (20 Hours)

At the second level, participants can shadow PCHS employees to learn what the day-to-day responsibilities are in different PCHS positions. Most disciplines covered in the Passport Series are available for job shadowing. In addition, a member of our Human Resources team will sit down to find out what jobs you’re interested in, describe what the requirements are for each position, and explain what your next steps will be to pursue a career in health care.

Level 3: Become a Volunteer at PCHS!

At the third level, participants who want to continue exploring opportunities at PCHS can apply to participate in our volunteer program. PCHS offers a broad array of volunteer opportunities and will work to match you with a role that suits your interests and skill sets. Through the volunteer program, you can gain additional experience in the health care industry while making a difference in your community.
