PCHS has partnered with Central Kitsap School District at Barker Creek for a school-based health center. Primary medical care and behavioral health services are available onsite to all CK district students and their families twice a week either by walking in or through an appointment.
Advantages are no-wait times, parents can choose to accompany their child for their appointment or sign a consent ahead of time to allow for the students to be seen by themselves by signing a consent and a visit summary. The visit summary will be sent electronically so parents can remain in the work place or at home caring for siblings or older adults.
Students can be seen for evaluation and treatment of common health problems, sports physicals, preventive health care, and mental, social, and emotional health care. Referrals to other health care providers can be arranged as needed.
School-based health centers provide a crucial link between health and education, improving outcomes for students in both areas. With youth-focused health education and services available at school, more students are likely to stay healthy, feel supported, and be in class ready to learn.
