From a very early age in Peru I recognized illness and disease. I wanted to do something to help those who were physically sick and I wanted to know personally how to stay healthy. My main emphasis in medicine has always been prevention.
Data from many years of research has shown that we can control our own destiny to a certain extent in the way that we eat, sleep and exercise. Our daily diet controls our destiny for such things as cancer, heart attack and stroke, even dementia.
There is nothing to compare with having the privilege to help someone I’ve known over their lifetime. The patient and doctor interaction is incredibly important. It is quite a privilege to solve health problems and help keep my patients healthy.
On a personal note, Dr. Swift enjoys hiking and mountain climbing, has completed ascents of Mount Rainier, Mount Baker, Mount Saint Helens, The Brothers and Mount Olympus. He has been SCUBA diving for over 40 years (dived in California, Maui, Kona, Oahu, El Cozumel in the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico, as well as in Paradise Island in the Bahamas), licensed by PADI NAUI. He also has enjoyed skiing and cycling. He is a member of YMCA Silverdale and enjoys traveling. He has traveled through Europe, Peru, and Jordan, and Israel, islands in the Caribbean as well as many places in the United States.
