PCHS Psychiatric ARNP Residency Program
Peninsula Community Health Services Residency Program Spring 2019
Peninsula Community Health Services is excited to announce the start of our Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Residency Program. As part of our ongoing commitment to our community, we continue to look to the future and meet the growing needs of our patients by providing robust integrated care that focuses on whole patient care for improved patient outcomes.
Peninsula Community Health Services (PCHS) was founded in 1987 as a community clinic in downtown Bremerton and became a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in 1993. PCHS’ health services include primary medical, dental, behavioral health counseling, substance abuse treatment, pharmacy services, and health education and promotion activities for all stages of life. Services are provided to all patients regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. PCHS patients may qualify for a sliding fee discount based on their household income and family size. PCHS delivers a comprehensive and integrated approach to health care services and is an accredited Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) by AAAHC.
PCHS has medical and dental clinics located throughout Kitsap and Mason Counties in the Puget Sound area of Western Washington, about thirty minutes west of Seattle by ferry. Our team of 300 employees serve over 31,000 patients throughout the region. As the only community health center in Kitsap and Mason counties, PCHS has experienced considerable growth in the last several years. Recently we’ve incorporated mobile treatment services for primary medical and behavioral health to reach patients where they are in the community.

Residency Program Specifics
To expand access to high-quality care in a way that meets each patient’s individual needs, PCHS has adopted a new model of team-based, collaborative, and integrated care in which behavioral health clinicians, primary care providers, pharmacists, and dentists all work closely together, sharing same electronic health record and often seated together in the same area.
PCHS is committed to providing effective and efficient behavioral health care in the primary care setting. Our new Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Residency Training Program will provide comprehensive training in delivering evidenced-based care in the field of mental health and substance use disorders to uninsured and underserved populations under this Collaborative and Patient-Centered Medical Home Model.
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Residency Training Program will provide the new psychiatric nurse practitioner an experience working with diverse population of patients with assorted conditions. Experienced providers will work side-by-side with residents as they treat patients in the various outpatient health care settings at PCHS. Program staff will support residents in advancing their skills in delivering behavioral health care specific to the needs of the individual patients.
PCHS is accredited through Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). 2019 is the initial year of our 24 month Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Residency Program. The residency is divided into two main components: the first year the resident will be actively precepted by experienced psychiatric nurse practitioners and the second year the resident will practice independently with their own panel under guidance of preceptors.
Applicants must meet the following requirements: be a recent graduate of a Master or DNP programs, have an American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification as a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), and Washington State License.
