
Milestones - The Early Years
1987 (Pre KCC) - A cooperative
effort of limited services is offered through Kitsap Community Resources
and the Kitsap County Health District.
1989 - Kitsap
Community Clinic (KCC) opens doors in the medical dental
building in downtown Bremerton.
1990 - KCC
begins providing health care services on a full-time basis.
Program expands with the offering of the Women, Infants and
Children (WIC) nutrition counseling and food supplement
program at the Bremerton Clinic.
1991 - Dr. Edwin Tegenfeldt joins KCC as its first medical
director.
1992 - Primary medical services
are expanded to North Kitsap with the opening of a site in Poulsbo.
1993 - The organization is accepted as a Federal Section 330 grant
recipient, infusing $233,125 in needed funding to clinic
operations.
1994 - KCC staff grows to 25, with year-end revenues of $614,423.
Total number of patients served grows to 6,466.
1995 - The clinics enjoy
continued growth. More services and programs are offered to serve a
growing population.
1996 - Dental services are
offered as a pilot project funded by United Way of Kitsap County. The
organization's name changed to Kitsap Community Health Centers to better
reflect expanded services.
1997 - KCHC moves to its new headquarters building located at 616
Sixth St. The
building houses the Bremerton medical and dental clinics, a
WIC program site and administrative offices. Dr. Robert
Rozendal is named new medical director.
1998 - Poulsbo Clinic expands to
full-time hours with additional providers.
1999 - KCHC
acquires Grays Harbor Community Health Centers (GHCHC) and
creates a new corporate entity - Peninsula Community Health
Services (PCHS). PCHS opens a third Kitsap County site
located in Port Orchard. By the end of the year, staff has
grown to 85, number of patients served is 12,860 and annual
program revenues total $3,736,483.
